For our penultimate spotlight, we’re featuring Si Min Pang, a Senior Trader based in our Singapore office – MonFX. With nearly two decades of experience Si Min has built a successful career in a traditionally male-dominated field, demonstrating that confidence, expertise, and determination are key to thriving in the industry.
From Graduate Programme to Trading Floor
With 18 years of experience in the financial industry, Si Min’s career began in a graduate training program at a Japanese corporate bank. During her time there, she had the opportunity to learn about credit, sales, operations, and trading. But it was the fast-paced world of trading that immediately captivated her.
When I stepped onto the dealing desk, I was immediately drawn to the energy and excitement of the trading floor. That experience ignited my passion for the industry.
After gaining exposure to multiple areas of finance and developing her expertise, her passion for trading led her to Monex, where she now plays a key role in leading and growing the trading team in Asia for MonFX, part of the Monex group
Thriving in a Traditionally Male-Dominated Industry
The financial sector, particularly trading, has long been a male-dominated space. However, Si Min has never let that define her experience. She approaches her career with a merit-based mindset, believing that success is driven by performance rather than gender.
I never saw a particular sector as being ‘male-dominated.’ Instead, I was raised in a culture that emphasised equal opportunity. If you excel, if you prove your capabilities, then you earn the respect and opportunities that come with it.
While she acknowledges that gender imbalances still exist in some industries and regions, she believes the best way to overcome barriers is through self-belief and delivering results.
I’ve always focused on my results, and in turn, that has built my credibility. If you add value to the business, people will recognise and respect you, regardless of gender.
Empowering Woman in Finance
For Si Min, increasing women’s representation in finance is not just about diversity, it’s about creating an environment where talent thrives, free from bias. She is a strong advocate for ensuring that opportunities are based on skill, not stereotypes.
Representation fosters a fair and inclusive workplace. Opportunities should be based on talent and performance, not gender or background. Visibility matters because it reassures future generations that finance is a space where anyone with the right skills can succeed.
